Centenary of the Chinese Exclusion Act in Canada
This year marks the centenary of the Chinese Exclusion Act in Canada. From 1923 to 1947, under the Chinese Immigration Act, Chinese people were subject to an official exclusion, prohibiting them from entering Canadian soil. For Chinese workers, this meant losing all contact with their families back in China, thus becoming a community of married bachelors marginalized in society.
